    • With the increasing need in our area, we will continue with our fundraising drive in 2011. Our goal will be $300,000 with it all going to our Social Service programs.

  • What is the mission of St. Vincent de Paul?
    • St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are in need and suffering.
  • You get all of that stuff donated to the store. Why do you charge the public to buy it?
    • We are proud to have 2 stores in Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls. Most of our employees are or have been through our programs, and they are a huge asset and testimony to some of our successes.
    • Selling donated item in these stores is the only income St. Vincent de Paul has to operate the 24 Social Service programs we have available to help the homeless and those who are in need.
    • Monthly, our stores donate an average of $3,100 just in clothes, sleeping bags, coats, shoes, food and blankets to those who have none.
    • Whether you donate money or household items to sell, all of your money stays in Kootenai County to help our friends in Kootenai County.
  • How much money actually goes to provide help and solutions for people?
    • 91% of what is given goes to support 24 Social Service programs that support our homeless youth, seniors and families.
  • How much is the overhead costs for St. Vincent de Paul?
    • 9% — Utilized for fundraising, overhead and staff costs, and volunteer support costs.
  • Who runs St. Vincent de Paul?
    • St. Vincent de Paul is overseen by approximately 12 board of trustee members, accountable for the oversight of the organization and ensuring the mission will be fulfilled. The board hires the executive director who runs the day-to-day operations.
  • How many people are served by St. Vincent de Paul Social Service Programs?
    • In 2010 we are trending to provide service to 869 homeless children, 1,062 women, 979 men in our programs. We will have approx. 16,660 homeless through our soup kitchen, and approx. 33,411 beds filled this year.
  • Does St. Vincent de Paul have a nondiscrimination policy?
    • St. Vincent de Paul was the original social worker. He believed that only love for your fellow man could open the way to a new and better world. As an organization, St. Vincent de Paul abides by the Equal Opportunity Employment Act treating individuals without regard to race, religion, sex, color, national origin, age, or disability. This also pertains to those we serve.
  • Does St. Vincent de Paul donate local funds to its national organization, National Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
    • St. Vincent de Paul pays an annual fee of $150 to the national office. In return, our local organization receives training for volunteers and staff, public service announcements, reduced rates on supplies and campaign films, availability of grants, etc.
  • What kind of housing does St. Vincent de Paul have to help the homeless?
    • St. Vincent de Paul supports 29 beds in our emergency shelters (the only Men’s Emergency Shelter in Kootenai County), 42 apartments in our Transitional Housing, including veteran housing, where people can stay up to 2 years, and 239 apartments of permanent low income affordable housing.
